Update/Summer Plans

January 4th, 2012

Hey everyone. This year I did not have my annual winter holiday album release as usual. This was mainly due to college apps, visits, blah blah blah. Anyway, I’m planning on releasing a possible EP or even full length album depending on how much I get done over the summer to be released before next Fall. It’ll be a free download. Right now I’ve got some pretty nice tunes in the works and I’m excited to have some sort of finished project.

Enough of that, here are two songs I finished recently. More experimental, but interesting stuff. This first one I made to play around with some new filters. As well, I wanted to see how well I could emulate a really nice, rough sounding electric guitar. This one was a pain to get all the instruments equalized and really popping, and it still needs work, but have a listen!

This second song I just finished up today. It has a pretty lighthearted sound, and I just love the bass section throughout the middle and the end.

Where My Beasts Are Bedded

December 10th, 2011

These two songs are pretty strange. I guess everything I’ve been doing lately has been experimental, but I do feel good about these tracks. I tried to make each song explore different techniques and have good build ups, so check em out!

And The Winner Is…

November 10th, 2011

This is a new song I just finished up in about 3 hours total time. It was a nice experiment in which I tried making a classic 8-bit sounding tune, while mixing in modern digital synths. The result, I would say, is fairly successful. The song demonstrates the rough sounding edges of the 8-bit leading melody over the contrasting background music. I think it makes it sound quite lyrical; have a listen.

Taio Cruz - Dynamite - Melto Remix

October 28th, 2011

Name of the post pretty much says it all. I don’t usually make remixes, but I thought I would give it a go. This was actually tons of fun to make, especially working on the vocals to make new melodies and rhythms. While I don’t feel remixes are the most original form of work… I suppose I do like the new direction this mix takes.

Sunrays

October 28th, 2011

It’s been awhile, but here is some classic Mac Meltonian trance! I haven’t uploaded anything like this in a pretty long time but this is the type of music I first started with and I wanted to revisit my origins and see what I could come up with.

Update 2011

October 10th, 2011

Thanks for visiting my site! For those of you who’ve been here before, all of my old posts (pre 2011) are marked as private right now. They will eventually be back up on the site in a little archive section. I’m going to try to keep this site more constantly updated and have started with a few posts today to get the ball rolling.

8 bit

October 10th, 2011

I recently upgraded my computer and I’m still working at transferring all my plug ins/sounds etc. What I’m saying is, I currently have none of the tools to make any music! So in the meantime, I downloaded an 8 bit vst and played around with it. Some of the restrictions that came with making a song in this style really forced me to make sure other aspects of the song, like melody, stood out. This isn’t the first 8 bit song I’ve made, but it’s a nice example of what I’ve been doing with my time.

Envelop

October 10th, 2011

“Envelop” is song I made about a year ago to play around with my microphone. The track features vocals from me that are heavily effected and auto-tuned. As a non-singer, I will never put myself on a song without every effect slapped I have slapped onto my vocal track. This song is my attempt at doing this as tastefully as possible. This is something very common in pop/rap today, but I’m curious how it works with this more classical type feel of a song. Have a listen.

Lyrics:
By the murmur of a spring
sheets of velvet envelop thee
While the air and the leaves sing
could have fooled me
Beating on these hollow caves
the strange music of the waves
All nature’s beatuies stand

*The track is a little quiet; I entered it into a competition and wanted to avoid clipping for quality.

Vocaloid

October 10th, 2011

Vocaloid (ボーカロイド Bōkaroido?) is a singing synthesizer application, with its signal processing part developed through a joint research project between the Pompeu Fabra University in Spain and Japan’s Yamaha Corporation, who backed the development financially—and later developed the software into the commercial product “Vocaloid”.[1][2] The software enables users to synthesize singing by typing in lyrics and melody. It uses synthesizing technology with specially recorded vocals of voice actors or singers. To create a song, the user must input the melody and lyrics. A piano roll type interface is used to input the melody and the lyrics can be entered on each note. The software can change the stress of the pronunciations, add effects such as vibrato, or change the dynamics and tone of the voice.

Finding singers is so stressful… So I thought I would try downloading a Vocaloid. There were a few hiccups along the way, such as the Vocaloid software being in Japanese, and only being able to sing in Japanese. So I decided to hammer away at google translate and actually write a song in Japanese. The results were interesting. Have a listen to my first, and probably last, Vocaloid inspired song.
